Guide to Charlotte: Whisky River

You won’t catch me on one of those mechanical bulls anytime soon, but if I were to get up the courage the only place I would consider doing it is at Whisky River. Located in the recently renovated Uptown section of Charlotte, Whisky River is the club owned by NASCAR’s most popular driver Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Whisky River can be found on the third floor of a building known as the Epicenter which is located on East Trade Street. It’s a great place to visit while you are in Uptown for the Speed Street Festival. It’s only a few blocks from the festival to Whisky River so walking isn’t a huge issue, though depending on where you park it could be.

Whisky River is a place anyone would feel comfortable. With two bars, a mechanical bull, a gift shop, and plenty of room to dance tons of fun can be had. I imagine during non race weekends Whisky River is filled with young men and women but on race weekend anything and everything goes. You don’t have to be a Dale Jr. fan to get into the club or even a NASCAR fan.

Here are the basics:
  • Whisky River is located at 210 East Trade Street.
  • Children are not admitted to the bar - Sorry parents!
  • You have to sign up for a membership in order to get into the bar. That reminds me, where the heck is my membership card.
  • Most merchandise sold at Whisky River can be bought from their website or from JR Motorsports so if you don’t feel like dealing with the crowd you can still get the cool shirts and knick knacks.
  • Don’t expect to see Dale Jr. I can pretty much guarantee you that he won’t be there. He would be nuts to show up there with all those fans during race week.
