Your Guide to Charlotte: Penske Racing

It's time for the next installment in the Guide to Charlotte series. Today Penske Racing

No trip to Charlotte would be complete without stopping in to Penske Racing's facility in Mooresville, NC. If you have never been to the race shop you will need directions because it's a little hard to find. Once you get there though you won't be disappointed.

Hanging over the rail to get this shot.

Penske has one of the best set ups in the business as far as I am concerned. On the lower level you will find a large gift shop full of your favorite Penske driver's gear. They even have some stuff from past drivers which I was glad to see. One wall of the gift shop is glass so you can view the work floor up close. When we were there the teams were preparing the cars for the Coke 600 that weekend.

View of Kurt Busch's #2. I love this shot and how the numbers glow.

The second floor observation deck made Penske different from some of the other shops we visited because you aren't separated from the shop by glass. The open railing makes it easy to take pictures and you can hear what the people on the floor are talking about.

Here are the basics

  • Penske racing is located at: 200 Penske Way in Mooresville, NC (You can get direction and a map here)
  • There is plenty of parking for visitors.
  • Make sure to ask about their fan appreciation day which happens on the Friday before the Coke 600 - Drivers show up and sign autographs and they offer a discount on the merchandise - We didn't make it for that but I hear you have to be there super early (like 4AM) if you even want a chance to meet a driver

If you are a fan of Kurt Busch, David Stremme, or Sam Hornish Jr you definitely need to add this to your list of places to visit while in the Charlotte area.

You can read more about our trip in this article written by Jenn.

  1. Don't let Katy scare you off, Penske isn't that hard to find. Of course when I took her, it was my second trip there so maybe that helped?
